Not in Our Name - Dieser Ausspruch von Saul Williams ging 2003 um die Welt. Sein Bekenntnis zum Widerstand, zum klaren Nein gegen den Krieg passt auch ganz gut zum heutigen 11. September. Saul Williams war mir von jeher sympathisch, da ihm schon recht früh der Brückenschlag zwischen HipHop, Punk und Slam Poetry gelang, ohne dabei so albern oder peinlich zu wirken wie manche seiner deutschen Kollegen. Viel eher belebt er das wieder, was in den frühen Siebzigern Jalal Nuridin und die Last Poets ausgemacht hat.
Ich habe gerade zwei Videos, einen Remix als MP3 und den Text zu Williams "Pledge to Resist" rausgesucht. Das erste Video ist ein Konzertmitschnitt, das Zweite gleicht eher einer animierten Kollage. Williams Audiospur wurde einfach auf A Tribe Called Quests Luck of Lucien Instrumental gelegt. Für einen richtigen Remix erscheint mir das etwas lieblos. Ich finde es aber dennoch recht nett. Die Not-in-our-Name-Remix-EP lief vor fünf Jahren in meinem Autoradio hoch und runter, damals noch auf Kassette. Ich habe das Tape dann einmal verborgt und damit war es weg.
